Creating Room for Growth

When Saab outgrew its Stockholm office, the company faced a choice: optimise the existing space or expand. As the current layout already served its purpose well, the decision was made to add another floor – just a few storeys down in the same building. Kinnarps was commissioned to furnish the new space with a flexible, future-proof solution tailored for continued growth.

A Versatile Mix of Spaces

Since opening in February 2025, the new floor has quickly become a valued workplace. It offers a variety of settings for focused work, meetings and social interaction. The area serves both employees needing a quiet spot to work and visiting colleagues from other locations, without putting pressure on the main office.

Johan Mångsén, Brand Design Manager at Saab, reports positive feedback from colleagues: “Many feel it’s airy, modern and pleasant. I think that’s largely thanks to the well-considered layout – plenty of desk space, meeting points and social areas,” he says.

The height-adjustable Serie P desk, Vibe screen and Plus task chair support focused work by reducing distractions and encouraging varied posture.

Thoughtful Design Ensures Sustainability

This new floor is the first of several spaces to be furnished according to a design concept developed by Kinnarps and Saab. The aim is to create a cohesive, functional working environment in line with Saab’s growth. By tailoring the interior to the way the space will actually be used, the solution meets employee needs – both now and in the future. This enhances efficiency and well-being while also extending the lifespan of the furnishings, making the project more sustainable, both environmentally and economically.

The colour palette draws inspiration from Scandinavian landscapes. To support focus and ensure long-term appeal, it uses nature-inspired tones, balanced with brighter accents reminiscent of lichen-covered mountain slopes.

In the dining area, the Oberon table, D2 chair made from recycled plastic and natural fibres, and the timeless Gino sofa create a sustainable space for social breaks.

Meeting rooms are furnished with the Oberon conference table and the comfortable Monroe meeting chair. Both are sustainable choices, thanks in part to their replaceable components. Monroe also features removable upholstery, further extending its lifespan.

Preparing Saab’s office for future growth was a key goal of the project. The new floor has therefore been designed for easy adaptation and expansion. The airy layout leaves room for additional workstations, and by choosing furniture with a consistent design language, future additions can be made without compromising the cohesive aesthetic. Furniture with replaceable components was also selected to support renewal and extend product life.

“We want to know that our investments stand the test of time and are responsibly made. And as we’re growing, our spaces need to adapt along the way,” says Johan Mångsén, reflecting on the guiding principles behind the interior choices.

The Neo Lite Soft chair, Cobble pouffe, Oas modular sofa and Cone and Tinnef coffee tables create a relaxed atmosphere in the lounge area.

Next Steps: Continued Collaboration and Concept Development

Alongside the design of the new floor, the project team has carried out broader brand work to shape Saab’s future offices. Johan Mångsén highlights the effective collaboration with Kinnarps as a key factor behind the project’s success.

“We’ve been a large project group, with representatives from both Saab and Kinnarps, which requires great teamwork. That work continues now, and we’re evolving the design concept – including for an upcoming project in Lund!” he says.

Natural materials like veneer and wool enhance the biophilic feel of the design concept.

Sofas, armchairs, pouffes and tables in various heights create a welcoming atmosphere and encourage varied postures throughout the day.

The Gino modular sofa features a gap between seat and backrest, making it an easy-to-clean and hygienic choice in areas where food and drink are consumed.
